E4 E-sting

This TV ident that is shown on E4 is a mixture of stop motion animation and computer graphics, from being the audience you can identify simply which is which but they are both used very cleverly as the sequence and the flow of the ident are edited to look that way. As this being a TV ident its identifying the channel so the audience can relate to the ident and know what channel it is that is being shown. The way to logo is shown in this ident is don't by CGI from there being a card board box and suddenly rapidly forming into the E4 sign, it goes well with the sequence of the ident and how the set has been made. There is a constant change of camera shots for different part in the room when other new objects appear and a constant shot of tracking shot around the room to show what is happening, this way there is a clear insight in everything that is going on.

As shown in the TV ident there is so many things going on at once, with different stop motion animation and computer graphics used equally to create an effect so show how things can happen and unreal thing in the shots. At first the ident starts off with a normal shot of a room with two beds, then it cuts to the curtains shutting, draws opening and a chair lifting up this is all done in stop motion animation and sped up to look fluently, then this gluey liquid animation comes out the draws and birds made out of paper are flying about, this is when the CGI and the stop motion animation mix together because there is a variety of both being used in the ident. An octopus's legs come out of the bed and takes the teddy bear on the bed, this is shown to create a unusual look and a cause of unrealistic graphics. The whole ident is effect because it looks kind of cartoon wise in the sense of there are thing moving around that will in reality not be there and as there are so many things going on in the ident it looks good. Everything in the ident is random for example real geese in the shot at the end which none of the objects shown in the ident will be seen in any normal hotel room.
All the colours in the shot are bold are dark but used in a colourful way, there are so many different colours used with different lights shown and the tvs and neon lights in the background. All the objects in the room are opaque so they stand out more and look more 3D than what they are to look realistic.

E4 - Lution

This idents that is shown is a different way of using stop motion animation in a more creative way, it looks as if its almost real from the way all the camera shots have been put together and made to look fluent. All idents that are made are made for a certain reason, mostly to represent the programmes that are made on that channel or to be remember by if they are made in a certain way to be memorable and so you can recognise when seeing it again. In this case for this persific ident it is made in an unusal way so this will have an impact on the audience. The set is made on a table with added objects around to encourage the theme of the ident, at the start it shows a variety of tubes and a glass container with liquid in so it gives you an idea that its going to be some kind of science project. All that its taken to make this is the camera which is filming, the equipment needed such as the containers, a civ, and the background.

As the ident carries on, all the focus is on the object in the middle which is the civ where the magic happens and is shot by the camera slowly zooming in until the end where all the things that have been made in the civ stops and splats out ending with gu and E4 signs splattered on the screen. Its made by alot of material and equipment, as watching the E4 ident loads of crazy things are coming out of the civ making it look real which is the effect it achieved. The whole of this stop motion animation is made by hand with materials being used to create a scene, the only thing that is CGI is at the end when the gu and the E4 signs splat out onto the screen.

Brothers Quay

Brothers Quay is a short film that was purposly made for entertainment for the audience, there was quite alot of these films made as they were quite popular at the time and was successful. These films were made by two brothers named Stephan and Timothy Quay so they used this by creating the name Brothers Quay. They have made a contribution to animation and came up with the idea to create short films in stop motion animation. The purpose of Brothers Quay is to entertain the audience and use stop motion animation in a different way, by using dolls and toys. By this being another way of using stop motion animation it is bringing the audience in to entertain and excite them to see a different animation film. The short films are aimed at anybody, and particually people who like to see stop motion animation used in a different way as there are a lot of way that can be created using this technique. It is also aimed at people to like to watch thriller films as they have a slight theme or being creepy and unusual. The resourses that are needed to create these short films are the camera and setting which is made everytime the shoot a short film, the set is handmade and the props that are used as well are made to suit the set and the theme. Also the puppets and toys are used with see threw string so its impossible to see when the puppets are being moved, also in the toys there is metal in them so it makes it easy for them to move and walk.

The strengths of The Quay Brothers are the stop motion animation quality is good and the way its been put together is good the sequence is fluent and you cant tell that the puppets are used by string. Its also a good short story as it is entertaining to the audience. Also how the brothers have made this short film successful. I personally dont think that there are any weaknesses for these short films as they have a good story and are presented well.

Her Morning Elegance

Her Morning Elegance is a music video by Oren Lavie, the song itself is about a love story and how beautiful the woman looks in the morning so for the idea they had to make a music video they decided to use stop motion animation and to make a story out of it from the women being in bed. The purpose of the stop motion animation is to show a story in a different way and by using this they can tell a story just as well with using a simple location and less resourses to use. As well why this is a good stop motion animation to use is because it makes it memorable to the audience and can easily notice the song when it comes on the radio or TV from the video that its showing. The video is aimed at a range of people who likes the song and the music that the artsist presents, it shows a different way of shooting a music video as it can tell the story in a different way to shooting a performance based music video and the video is promoting the song choice and what it is about. This is connecting to a narrative based music video as its telling the story of the lyrics. The stop motion animation is used cleaverly and looks good and effective, the only resourses that the producer has used is the static camera that is positioned above the bed in the same place and the only thing that is moved are the objects on the bed and the woman an man that appear, the way they are moved is like they are walking and different objects are added to make it effective and look different. Everything in the shot is used in stop motion animation and nothing is used on the computer using CGI which makes the video more effective in the way it is used. This is further into the stage of stop motion animation, as you have seen the past videos are from a long time ago and then they was the earliest form of stop motion animation and gradually it becomes better and more professional in different ways its used. It is a simple way to use stop motion animation because all they are basically doing is moving the objects on the bed to create a story.

All the resourse that were used to film this music video was a static camera, a room with a bed, two people and different types of clothing that is being moved around shot by shot to create the story of the song. There are many strenghths that this music video stop animation brings, its a good thing that the producers have only used one camera to film this process and kept it in the same position to film the whole set. Its also has a nice story to the music video and its shown well by making the woman look pretty in the morning and to show a story of her day. The stop motion animation is jerky but it can be a good thing because it adds to the effect of the video to make it have the extra effect by showing a story like this. In such a small amount of time and that fact that its only shot in one position on the bed it would take more time and effort to move every single thing and the woman moving in different strange positons it brings strength to the video and shows other ways to used stop motion animation successfully and gives people ideas to create it in many ways.

Nokia N8 Gulp

The Nokia N8 Gulp is a advert promoting the nokia phone, to show how good the camera is by filming everything that was going on in the advert, the main purpose of the advert is to persuade people to buy the phone if they are looking for a new one and at the end of the advert it shows the nokia and how it has been set up to film the whole shoot. The advert is aimed at everyone in general that have phones and are mainly looking for a good camera to use and this advert promotes the phone well and can see clearly how good the camera is by recording the worlds largest stop motion animation set.
It is clear how the advert was made, by a Nokia N8 and the brilliant camera that is advertised. There was a lot of resourses and props used during the proccess of filming, the sea and the beach is the main thing that the advert is about and a real man is used for the man in the boat. It took all the cast 5 days to shoot the whole thing on 3 nokia phones, and took over 60 people to help making the advert. It estimated that 16 hours was 20 seconds on the advert. There was many people there that was perfessional sand artists that made the fish and the shark at the end and was made with everyones help. The only resources that was needed was the beach, the half boat on its side adn the man and eveyone that made the advert.
The strenghts that this advert brings is that its made on a camera phone and it shows the audience that things as big as this can be recorded on a nokia n8. Its also very pursuading and shocking when you see the phone at the end, it almost seems unreal that this advert is shot on a phone, so it gives it that wow factor. Another good thing about this advert is that its known at the biggest stop motion animation set that has been made yet and how someone has thought about making this and actually making it happen. Also its really positive how well it was shot and the different ideas that are used, such as the story of it and how all the props and resourses has worked well together.
Personally i dont think there is any weaknesses for this advert, and it was shot very well and cleaverly. The only effect it has on the advert is the weather and that they could only film the day shots in the day and the night shots at night, so the cast had to depend on the time they had and work quickly.

The Magic Roundabout

The Magic Roundabout is a kids program made many years ago in the 1970s this the was another form of stop motion animation and how to entertain children by using toys. This TV programme was created by a man called Serge Danot in 1965 when his show was shown on television it then became a legend and very popular especially for children. It was only a short five minute episode every time they was played mainly just before the new of a new programme was starting. The characters in the episode were toys and parts of the set were made out of playdoe, this shows another way of how to produce stop motion animation. There was a wide range of The Magic Roundabout episodes shown and made because it look to long to make as the amount of shots they had to use oer second for example for this type of animation it would of taken 25 shots per second estimating at 7500 pictures per episode to make the effect fluent and look like they were really moving.
The purpose of making this episode is to mainly entertain children and to make it memorable as children at a young age will want to repeatedly see a episode like this over again because it makes it exciting for them. It is clearly aimed at young children as most programs have similar storys and charcters to compare with and to have i wider option of entertainment. The story of The Magic Roundabout that it is trying to tell to the children is the adventures of the characters which varied in each episode and for that there was a different story for each episode shown about the different characters and the storys they had to tell.
The Magic Roundabout was made in a very simple way and form, the set was hand made out of wood with a background that was painted to go with the story of the episode. The characters were made out of toys and certain bits in the set were made by playdoe. The story was made by moving each charcter and after each movement they took a picture to then create a story.
The Magic Roundabout was very effective when it was invented to children as it was bright and colourful which children will connect with as the colours makes the set seem happy and cheerful, there was different characters to tell the storys better and it made each episode different to the previous from the 7 characters. It was likeable by children as they wanted to keep watching it, this is a reason why it has become successful today and how it has brought a film out of the magic roundabout because it was so likeable by the viewers and it became very popular back when it first came out. The weaknesses of this program is that there wasnt very many of them shot because it just took too long to make and edit to put all together, it may of been more successful if there was more episode made and shown on TV. Also another weakness is that the shots were jerky in the way they have been put together to make this episode but when this was invented at the time it would of been a new fun entertainment for children.

Stop Motion Animation Past & Present

Zoetrope
The earliest for of animation was found by the Chinese in 180 AD this was the first form of  the zoetrope this is device that produces an illusion of actions from a rapid of succession from static images that are usually hand made as well as the zoetrope itself. It is a cylinder with holes in the side where you can see the still images from and that's how you would look at the zoetrope in the angle. You have to spin the zoetrope by hand to see the images move fast to create the stop motion animation, as this is the first form of its kind. The whole idea for what this product is used for is clear entertainment and amazement to the people from that century that hadn't seen anything like this before as TV hadn't even existed then. The zoetrope will be made to aim at everybody, as it is that old everyone in that time would find this entertaining I personally think anyone would like to have one of these and because they are so easy to make as there hand made and it involves everyone into the fun of making one as well.

Steps of making a zoetrope:
1. Start with a circular box or lid.
2.Cut a piece of adhesive tape 3-4cm square (about 1.5-2 inches).
3.Make a hole in the bottom of the box.
4.Stick the tape on the outside, over the hole, and cut radially from the inside.
5. Glue a glass bead from the inside so that it extends beyond the bottom rim of the box.
6.Draw a picture on a paper strip, as you would for a flip book.
7.Cut slits in a black paper strip, as shown
8.Place the black paper strip around the outside edge of the box.
9.Set the illustrated paper strip on the inside of it, with the illustrations between the slits.

At the time the zoetrope was made it would of been an exciting thing for someone to of made because nobody would of seen anything like it and would of been effective and very inventive to other people, you can have many different design on the outside to make it look better and more exciting and also the stop motion you see can be of any image you like and can possible tell a story. Another reason why it is effective is because its hand made and anybody could have fun with making one as they are quite easy to make and it could be fun for a family or friend to join in.
The weaknesses today for the zoetrope is that its nothing compared to stop motion animation today as in the years and century's it has become more successful and people have found better ways to make stop motion animation. As it was made to a basic level after a while people can get easily bored of it.

This is an example of a zoetrope, as you can see there is any a certain amount of images that you can use to make a short story or to show anything for your entertainment. This is also combined with a praxinoscope which you look at through the top when you spin it.
